Like many other women's groups we have chosen to operate as a flexible network without formal structures. The work is organised by a "co-ordinating group" of eight or nine women who volunteer to do whatever is necessary to plan actions.

The group's meetings are open to any Woman in Black who may be interested to share the work.

Actions may be initiated by any member of the network contacting a member of the co-ordinating group, who then consults the group as a whole.

The main activities of the co-ordinating group are to:

  • organise non-violent actions against violence, militarism and war
  • maintain and expand the WiB UK e-mail list, phone and address lists
  • keep in contact with WiB in other countries via the international e-list
  • maintain and update a telephone information line
  • develop and maintain the website
  • monitor changes in the national and international situation
  • furnish vigils with appropriate up to date placards and leaflets
  • organize the lobbying of politicians
  • obtain publicity
  • meet as a coordinating group on a regular basis to effect the above.
